ESPN X-Games Host Sal Masekela Films at Wave House

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being pumped into these sports and companies, such as Nike, who are getting behind the movement, which is a huge accomplishment considering the action sports world was hardly recognized just 10 years ago.

With upward momentum, the new sport of flowriding is becoming recognized and accepted by the action sports community. On Friday, June 17, X-Games presenter and E! News host Sal Masekela stopped by for the day to jump on the FlowBarrel at Wave House San Diego and film some intros and outros with our waves and sport as a perfect back drop. Leading up to Summer X, these clips will broadcast on ESPN for a show called X-Games Classix. Sal has been a long time advocate for flowriding and is helping catapult our favorite sport to the next level. Flowriding athletes are slowly getting recognized as the tricks and technicality of riding grows each year.

This isn't the first time flowriding hit the mainstream this year - the CBS Sports Network Alt Games College Flowboarding Championships, sponsored by Jack in the Box, took place on the FlowBarrel May 17 and will air later this month. The 2011 Alt games brought riders from South Africa, Singapore, Chile, Holland and the US together. Later this year, the third annual Flowriding League of the World (FLOW) Championships will be held in Wave House’s birthplace, Durban South Arica. 5 countries, 3 continents, and 40 of the best riders in the world will converge in one place and compete for the coveted world title.

It’s events like this, along with premium exposure, that will help the sport of flowriding grow and hopefully one day be an X-Games staple.
